Announcement of a “The Karate Kid” related TV program
In the evening news program “RBC NEWS Link”, the “New Year Interviews” will introduce people who are expected to be active in 2022. In May 2022, the musical version of the popular 1980s movie “The Karate Kid” is scheduled to be performed in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. From Okinawa, the associate producer is Matsudo Kyota. Last month, he was interviewed at the Okinawa Karate Kaikan.
Robert Mark Kamen, who wrote the movie “The Karate Kid” trained 8 years at the New York Shoreikan. The model of the karate teacher “Miyagi-san” in the play is Toguchi Seikichi, the founder of Shoreikan, and the last kick of Daniel comes from the Kata “Hakutsuru” created by Toguchi sensei.
For the program, the head of the Okinawa Karatedo Goju-ryu Shoreikan Ito Kozaburo sensei performed the said kata at the Okinawa Karate Kaikan and was interviewed. At the age of 91, Ito sensei is probably one of the oldest active karate instructors who keep teaching three classes a day for children, boys, and adults three days a week.
