A special exhibition on postwar and post-retrocession Okinawan karate will be held at the Okinawa Karate Kaikan Planning Exhibition and Reference Room.

Date: February 2, 2023 – March 21, 2023

More than 50 years after Okinawa’s reversion to mainland Japan, the number of karate dojos in Okinawa Prefecture has grown to 366.

Despite the devastation of the Battle of Okinawa and the poverty of daily life, many karate practitioners have continued to train in karate with an undefeatable spirit.

They have passed on their kata and training methods to the next generation.

This exhibition introduces an overview of karate practitioners and groups that have spread karate throughout the postwar and post-retrocession periods.

Contents of the Exhibition

Chapter 1: The Battle of Okinawa and Karate Practitioners

Chapter 2: Karate Organization and the Establishment of Styles
