　This year, praising his service for the preservation of cultural property, Nakahodo Tsutomu sensei (87), a cultural asset holder and Hanshi 10th dan in Uechi-ryū has been awarded the Medal of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays from the Japanese government.

　Before him, Chibana Chōshin (Shōrin-ryū) in 1968, Kaneshima Shinsuke (Tōzan-ryū) in 1972, Nagamine Shōshin (Matsubayashi-ryū)in 1982, Higa Yuchoku (Shōrin-ryū) in 1982, Uehara Seikichi (Motobu-ryū) in 1984, Yagi Meitoku (Gōju-ryū) in 1986 and Takamine Chōboku (Gōju-ryū) in 1989 were also awarded such prestigious awards.
