Use your language skills to share the beauty of Okinawa Traditional Karate with over 100 million karate enthusiasts around the world!

Upon completion of this training course, participants will be registered as so-called “Okinawa Traditional Karate Interpreter Masters” who are well educated in Okinawan Traditional Karate.

Registered participants will be able to participate in karate world tournaments, karate tours, and other events organized and sponsored by Okinawa Prefecture and the Okinawa Traditional Karatedo Promotion Association.

Eligibility:

(1) Certified interpreter/guide (English, Chinese, Spanish)

2) Candidates who are interested in karate and have language skills equivalent to English proficiency test level 1, Chinese HSK test level 4, or Spanish proficiency test level 2 *There will be an interview for language screening.

Number of Applicants: 40

Training period: August 6, 2023 (Sun) – February 18, 2024 (Sun)

Total training hours: 68 hours *Training will be held on Saturdays and Sundays during the period

Deadline: July 25 (Tue.) Deadline

 

Participants will learn systematically the history and culture of Okinawa karate, the differences between different styles, monuments honoring famous karate masters from the Kingdom period to modern times,

and places associated with karate, while learning about the history and cultural background of the Kingdom of the Ryukyus.

 

The course includes 40% of practical training in karate uniforms. Participants are required to learn the “Fukyu Gata” as part of the practical karate interpretation exercises,

as it is impossible to comprehend traditional Okinawan karate without  lerning the “techniques”. 

 

Instructors will be from the Okinawa Prefecture’s Intangible Cultural Asset Holders and other teachers who represent each style.
