Revival of Kobudō

The Okinawa Kobudō Association (Chairman Higa Seitoku) will held its first demonstration at the Naha Theater on the afternoon of the 26th starting from 13:00 with the support of the Cultural Property Conservation Committee, the Ryūkyū Shinpō and Okinawa Times companies. The items to be unveiled include traditional kobudō like bō, sai, kama, nunchaku, etc., traditional karate, as well as never seen karate, kumite, kiai-jutsu, etc., all together more than 60 performances. Forty nine people from all over the island will perform, among which one elder of 83 years old and a junior of 24. The purpose of this demonstration is to revive the kobu-jutsu that are on the way to disappearing. The Kobudō Association is striving to have these arts designated as human cultural properties (1). The entrance fee is 35 cents. Performers are as follow.
